Yesterday, Verizon announced that starting January 15 they were going to charge a $2 convenience fee to customers who pay their bill online or by phone. Today, after a day of customer outrage, Verizon said they will not be adding the surcharge. Earlier this year, Bank of America tried charging a $5 monthly fee to debit card users only to rescind that fee as well.

Verizon has 91 million customers. Let’s very conservatively say that 10 million of those customers would have been subject to the fee. That’s $240 million per year that Verizon would have “earned” by giving their customers the privilege of paying their bill. The fact that Verizon so quickly waived the fee shows how little they needed the money. The corporations would like you to believe that these fees are the cost of doing business, but it is simply greed of the highest order.

And I, for one, am sick of it. I say we rise up and hit these CEOs right where it hurts… in the nose!

Please join me on January 15 in celebrating the first annual “Punch a Billionaire in the Face Day.” Let’s teach these billionaires a thing or two about trickle down economics. But instead of wealth, it will be blood that does the trickling.

If you’re a busboy at Per Se, punch a billionaire. If you’re a bellhop at the Four Seasons, punch a billionaire. If you’re a submissive at a secret sex dungeon, punch a billionaire. If you’re a groundskeeper on the island where billionaires hunt humans for sport, we forgive you if you’d rather not punch a billionaire.

On January 15, let’s join hands, then unjoin them, then punch a billionaire in the face!
